‘People Are Greedy’: The Absurd Electric Bills Slamming Texans
Texans should file a class action suit against ERCOT, all the power companies, the governor & every member of their state House & Senate. All of them should pay these astronomical electric/gas bills.
DON’T PUNISH THE VICTIMS. PUNISH THE PERPETRATORS.
Thank god this isn’t twitter so I can say I unequivocally support murdering the people responsible. Don’t worry they probably weren’t smart enough to give cops lower rates no one will stop you.

Look at the absolute evilness
this is not okay for coronavirus rent and it’s not okay for natural disaster energy prices.
corporations will never do the right thing at the expense of profit. if you think they are sacrificing something to do the right thing, you’ve fallen for the sleight of hand while they pocket money from somewhere else.
I thought that was like one of those tweets that someone posts that sums up the ludicrousness of a situation, without all the run around they usually give,
But no that’s actually CPSE just saying “its crazy to expect people to pay our price gouging. But yeah we’re still charging you” in the same fuckin breath. Unironically.
This is evil, theres no other word that can describe this

I’m worried about the next electricity bill bound to come in the next couple of weeks 😃 folks are getting charged like $9000 per megawatt. Fuck the Texas officials who got us into this mess
Some folks are getting $25,000-$100,000 bills just from having electricity some of the time this past week holy shit
If you are a Texan facing price gouging from ANY company, please watch this video!
This includes electric companies, water and gas companies, hotels/inns you had to stay at due to the weather and groceries selling necessities!!
And while we’re here, if youd like to see direct action for holding Ted Cruz responsible for his failure to serve his state, you can do it with a simple text!
TEXT: PJENDN to 50409 to send a prewritten letter to your representatives!

If you follow me, you’ll for sure be tired of hearing this, but I can’t help it. If we let them, Texas leadership will let the media narrative be “oopsie, that storm sure caused a state of emergency that Texas couldn’t withstand 🤷♀️😅”
The truth is:
1. ERCOT chose profits and cost cutting over properly winterizing our grid. A similar (much less devastating) thing happened in 2011 and they rolled the dice betting on profits over people. The freak storm this week came and the people lost the bet.
2. Because the grid got TAXED by the extreme cold weather, it couldn’t keep up having not been winterized. So millions of people lost power in said extremely cold weather. Without the heat in their homes to help keep the environment warmer, pipes froze and burst all in residences over the state. Also, those of us with heat were dripping our faucets to try to keep our pipes from freezing too (many did anyway.)
3. This led to a handful of days where we used 250% of the normal water consumption level (according to Austin Water at least, most of it wastes by main breaks.) So that critically depleted our potable water supply and then water was shut off to many locations to help manage the supply. Everywhere, a boil notice went into effect bc the water that is available is not fully clean.
ERCOT answers to Governor Abbott exclusively. It is a direct line from Abbott->ERCOT->Power outages->Broken pipes->Humanitarian crisis.
The storm? Unavoidable. The humanitarian crisis that immediately followed? CAUSED. BY. THE. TEXAS. GOVERNMENT.

Capitalism didn’t give Americans cars and smartphones though. The people in most of those cars are probably still paying off their loans, and their phones are likely on contract. Capitalism just lends Americans money, so it can make more money when they pay it back. And they don’t complain because they get to enjoy the illusion of prosperity and drive a car they don’t really own, while paying other people for fuel and insurance.
It’s all smoke and mirrors. The only real part is the smoke.
capitalism didn’t give me a phone. it forced me to buy one if I wanted to do literally anything. homework, school, jobs, interviews, family, friends, relationships, banking, taxes, insurance, medical stuff, etc. I need a phone to do any of those things. and it’s pretty much the same deal with a car.
capitalism doesn’t give you things. it doesn’t create things. it makes certain expensive things necessary for survival in modern society. and if you can’t afford those things, then you’re just fucked.
